Diabetes and Periodontal Disease (gum disease) are common chronic disease which if left undiagnosed they can lead to major complication which can ultimately cause the death of a person.

Therefore, if you are a Diabetic you must remain watchful of your oral health because it is very important to maintain control if periodontal disease is detected.

There are several problems associated with a person that has Diabetes which can present in the oral cavity are:

Periodontal Disease (gum disease),Dry Mouth (salivary glad disfuction),Tooth Decay, Taste impairment, Delayed Healing, Infections, and fungal infections.

As you can see the list is not small. Periodontal Disease has been know as the sixth complication of Diabetes. Treatment of Periodontal Disease has been shown to improve the glyemic control of a person with Diabetes.

It is very important once a diagnosis of Diabetes is made by a Physician, the patient be refered to a Dentist (preferably one who is certified to treat Diabetics) for a complete oral evaluation.

At that time the Dentist should report back to the Physician what was found upon examination. That way they can formulate a plan of treatment that is best suited for that person.

There are several Risk Factors associated with Type II Diabetes

Age 45 or more, immediate family member with Diabetes, Background ( Afro-American, Hispanic-American, American Indian, and Asian-American), had gestational Diabetes, Blood Pressure over 140/90, Have gum disease, dental infections, pre-diabetes, a history of vascular disease, and overweight.

A Fact : Patients with Diabetes Type II, that get their Glucose under control and get their Dental Health under control, can live more Normal and Longer Lives.

I lived this with my Father. Who did not listen to the doctors and was and uncontrolled Diabetic. He died from complications of this disease 10 years ago. Please don't let this happen to you!

La Diabetes y las Enfermedades Periodontales son enfermedades cronicas que si se dejan sin diagnosticar pueden tener complicaciones severas que pueden causar su fallecimiento.

Si usted es una persona con Diabetes usted tiene que estar pendiente de su salud oral porque es muy importante mantener el control si le detectan periodontitis (enfermedad de sus encias y hueso).

Hay varios problemas associado con la persona que tiene Diabetes, lo cual puede presentarse en su boca. Esto son: Periodontitis, boca seca ( desfuncion de las gladulas de la saliva), Caries, sanar despacio, infeciones, dificultad probando comidas, infeciones de hongos en la boca.

Como pueden ver la lista es larga. Periodontitis ha sido conocido como la sexta complicacion de Diabetes. El tratamiento de la Periodontitis se ha provado que mejora el control de la azucar a la persona que tienes Diabetes.

Cuando la persona tiene el diagnostico de Diabetes por su doctor es muy importante que la persona sea referido a un dentista ( preferiblemente a un dentista que este certificado para tratar a personas con Diabetes) para una completa evaluacion oral.

En ese tiempo la Dentista deveria de reportar al Doctor que fue lo que encontro despues de su examinacion. De esa manera pueden formular un plan de tratamiento que sea apropiado para esa persona.

Hay varios Factores de Riesgos asociados con el Tipo II Diabetes.

45 Anos de edad o mas, si un miembro de su inmediata familia tiene Diabetes, su origen ( Hispanio-Americano, Latinos, Afro-Americano, Indios-Americano, y Asiaticos), si usted tuvo diabetes cuando estaba embarasada, alta precion 140/90, si tienes periodontitis, infeciones dentales, pre-diabetes, historia de enfermedades vasculares, y sobre peso.

Lo Que Se Sabe: Pacientes con Diabetes Typo II que tiene su azucar y su Salud Dental bajo control, pueden vivir vidas mas Largas y Normales.

Yo vivi esto con mi Papa. El no escucho a los medicos y fue un Diabetico descontrolado. El fallecio hace diez anos de complicaciones de esta enfermedad. Por Favor no deje que esto le pase ha usted!
